Reducing the risk of falls

Staying safer at home

Home visits- we come to you

Same day appointments

Improving strength, mobility, confidence and function are key to staying safer at home. Falls can happen at any time and affect us as we get older. One third of over 65's fall at least once a year with this increasing to 50% of people aged 80 and older . Unfortunately one in 10 falls can lead to a fracture.

However, there are steps we can take to reduce this risk and teach individuals what to do in the event of a fall.

The evidence from studies shows us that exercise targeting strength, balance and functional movements can reduce the risk of falling by up to 34%. A multifactorial falls risk assessment can further reduce this risk.

During the home visit we provide an holistic overall assessment of the individual including:

Balance

Transfers

Mobility

Falls risk

Risk of Osteoperosis

Sign posting to appropriate services

Movement and strength

Provision of equipment like walking aids/pressure cushions/chair raisers/bed levers

Blood pressure/temperature and oxygen measurements

From all of this we can develop individual treatment plans that can be completed at home in a familiar environment.

We are able to visit as often or little as needed to meet the individuals goals.
