Myth 1 # Moving will make my back pain worse
FACT: People fear twisting and bending but it is important to keep moving. Gradually increase the amount you do and regularly change positions
Myth 2 # I should avoid exercise, especially weight training
FACT: Back pain should not stop you enjoying exercise or activity. Recent studied have found continuing with exercise-including weights- can help you get better sooner (Always contact a healthcare provider if you are unsure)
Myth 3 # A scan will show exactly what is wrong
FACT: Sometimes it will but most of the time it will not. Most people have age related changes after a certain age, therefore scans will often find these changes but they are most often clinically insignificant
Myth 4 # Pain equals damage
FACT: This is how we use to percieve pain. We now know this is incorrect. Think of a paper cut, large amounts of pain, no damage.
